So do you guys use cleats or wading boot studs? I certainly do. But I hate paying top dollar for something that has to do with flyfishing. I guess if you use a product for flyfishing the mark up must be 500% at a flyshop??? Insane!!

Are you tired of paying top dollar for something to do with flyfishing?

Like these Simms wading boots studs. They are $19.95 for 20!! Ridiculous!!!

Doesn't Dpiscator always get you your FF'ing stuff you need on the cheap???   You bet'cha!  I have the same wading studs for 10 for $1.50! yep, the same exact thing as Simms except they are silver instead of black.

Simms must charge you for the paint job?? If you want 'em black I'll power paint them!!

Left - configuration for mossy rocked streams Right - config for shale bottom streams (like the Lake Erie tribs)

Clickety, right here!!

I've had a couple pair of Chotas and bought the pair that you could add the screws to.  I like t hem, and and after the stud heads wear flat, you can take them out and replace them.  That being said, even Chota studs are expensive, and I think that aluminum sheet metal screws will work just fine.........

I've seen major details on how to insert the screws like using all these glues and such.  I've found that just a phillips head screwdriver and the screws will mount up flush into the felt with no glues or goop or epoxy.  From time to time the screws loosen and you have to retighten or replace but it's an easy fix.  I like the grip the studs give me and I use them year round.  I do own a pair of ice cleats but I've found my traction is hampered by the cleats and prefer the studs.

Just be careful not to step on your $65 fly line.....OUCH!

I tend to use mine year round as well.  I do like the extra traction....

I just linked a keyword in an article I wrote on boot care to this post. Great post and I'm looking forward to placing an order for studs through you. Thanks again Dave for the useful information.
