Spring Creek......
All,
Looking to put together an outing on Spring Creek (Centre County) after the holidays. For those of you who made the trip past year, it would be more of the same, perhaps fishing at Benner Spring a little more than last time, unless we thought there was a better spot....(I am up for your suggestions) For the guys who haven't made the trip but want to, you are more than welcome! It is a nymphing or midge fishing game (regardless of what DPiscator does with streamers) but last years outing was a good time........ Stay tuned for an exact date and get ready to mark your calendar!!
JM
I am looking foreward to the trip. Dpiscator said it was a good time last year.
We fished a few times down there. Aside from the few twists and turns, we a good time and managed a few fish..... I hope you make the trip(s).....
JM
I'd like to throw the date of 12/27/09 out into the mix for our first SC outing!!!
I CAN MAKE THAT DATE!!! Can you?
Anyone? Sunday 12/27/09? A little Spring Creek action?
Not sure if I will be able to.
But I am sure glad your back and well!!!
(Snow on the ground.... ice won't be far behind!!!)
I doubt ill be able to go either... Too much traveling around at that time.
Im hope your feeling better!
i'm in.
JM
I have to visit my midge box.......need to make sure I have some cream midges in #24/26.....
I guess I better get some pink worms as well!!
JM
I will keep my ears open on conditions. I am looking forward to a DFP outing!!
JM, I have tons of pink worms tied up. Do you want them weighted or unweighted? Most are 14, 16, and 18's... I think a couple of #20's as well.
I could get more done if Mattflyguy would send me some more chenille... hint, hint, clue, clue.
I got to give Dave a chance to snicker about me with a fly rod like I did with him and the spinning rod, but my 6 1/2ft light spinning rod will also be close by. I'm in. I even own a fly rod or two along with some waders. Dave if you would please bring me something to use for trout I'll be set. I only have the bass streamers you tied for me last summer.
LD
Between John and myself... we have got you covered for flies!! I'll be tying a bit since I have some free time.
Plus Lance, here is the truth of the matter... if you can come to Spring Creek and land a trout, you can say that your a really good fly angler! That's a fact! These trout in Spring Creek are probably the most over-pressured, "seen every fly", weary, educated trout you will ever fish for. Heck, I went 4 trips down to Spring before I ever caught one. So if we can get you a Spring Creek brownie or 'bow. I would safely call you "well schooled" with a fly rod!
Would you agree with that JM?
Spring Creek trout can be tough...in fact, they are some of the most selective I have ever fished over. Then again, I have also fished during a blizzard when they hit a #22 BWO as quickly as I could cast to them....or chased and attached a chartreuse bug.... But, the one thing about them is....they have to eat! So, find out what they are eating and let the games begin!!
Lance, my flyboxes will be stocked......we'll stock you up....no worries!
TCarr....hoping you make the trip as well........
Matt, Seth, Don, Rich......open invite! (you know the drill!)
Marked my calendar today....the 27th it is!
JM
I can't make it due to family over the holiday. I'm actually family hopping until Jan 3rd. Big family. But, I must say this has been a tough...tough decision! I wish you all the best of luck. Take lots of pictures.
TCarr......don't you worry......there will be more than one Spring Creek outing......we fished it last year a few times over the winter. We'll get you out there......
Enjoy the time with your family........

Now why tie a pink worm fly when you can just use THE Pink Worm instead? I don't understand. The Pink Worm does not break the rules down there at Spring Creek, does it? We asked the WCO last time and he said it was legal. Or was it?
No.. the Berkeley pink worm is not consider a fly. It's consider a soft plastic bait.
Per PFBC regs: Fishing may be done with artificial flies and streamers constructed of natural and synthetic materials, so long as the flies are constructed in a normal fashion on a single hook with components wound on or about the hook. Anything other than these items are prohibited.

OK, so I COULD take a Pink Worm and tie it to a hook and be legal then. The worm is a synthetic material after all.
LOL!!!
With your tied PW fly, does the tale have the same action as the Berkley? I think that is the biggest attractor to the fish, the motion of the tale. (Besides the scent of course, but you can add that to anything. They sell the scent).
