No Go for Blues / Stripers
As I write this I should be in Barnegat, NJ, fishing the blues / stripers fall run. But good old Ida messed up the weekend plans. The Jersey coast was hit hard with a nor'easter starting around Thursday, and it will be a while before the waters settles down and clears. Last weekend, while I was attending my niece's baptism, the Miss Barnegat Light hit them pretty good. See my post, "Taunted by Waters" at: http://stflyfisher.wordpress.com/2009/11/11/taunted-by-waters/.
Anyhow, provided things settle down, the next few weekends should be good. The party boats out of Barnegat Light - Miss Barnegat Light, Doris Mae, and Carolynn Ann, are all jigging. Conventional rods or spinning rods with 20 - 30 lb test mono and diamond jigs are the usual fare. When the fishing is really on, you'll get a workout. Here's a clip from last year that a guy on the MBL was nice enough to take of me with a pool-winning striper:
Tight lines...
