Where to fish in Huntington County
Huntington county is blessed with some good water, and many species to pursue. The Little Juniata joins the Frankstown Branch and flows through the borough of Huntington to where it meets with the Raystown Branch, and becomes a tremendous smallmouth fishery, with the occasional suprise.
I typically fish the Little Juniata as it flows from Blair county to Huntington county (Just like the rest of the world as of late!). But, there is alot more to fish in Huntington county, and I haven't spent the time there I should. But, here are a couple alternatives to the Little J:
- Standing Stone Creek - Smaller water, but still nice trout fishing. It gets stocked, and also gets fished hard, but is fun stream.
- Trough Creek. - Trough Creek empties into :Lake Raystown and runs through the state park of the same name. Once again, it is stocked, and somthing tells me that in its lower reaches, some other species may show up to eat the poor defenseless little trout......
-Raystown Branch. - It flows out of the lake, and although it warms quickly and is a favorite of the inner tube crowd, there are bass to be had.....
- Lake Raystown - I have never fished here. I have driven around it, I have watched others fish it, but the crowd does me in. There are stripers as well as small and largemouth bass. I would guess if you were outfitted for deep water fishing, you could do well. Quite honestly, there are just oo many jet skis and boats for me, but have at it if you can find some solitude.........
Quite honestly, there are a bunch of other places to fish in this county......I just never spend too much time here.......but don't let that keep you from exploring, there are plenty of other good opportunities!
