Sayers Lake, Howard PA
We have been here only once so far this year, but it looks like we are going to load the boat up this time and go have a look see. I wanted to run the motor some since I put Seafoam in the gas, I had a little issue last time out, and wanted to un-gum the carb a bit, and didn't want to do it in the river, for obvious reasons. And since I am going through the trouble of loading up and driving over there, well I guess we should see if we can catch any legal size crappies. The better half heard crappie fishing and is now raring to go, we will probably do the after dinner routine and let the " boaters " do there thing now.
Report and pics when I get back.
Well not much to report. We waited till about 5:00 then left for the Lake, stopped at the bait shop for a couple dozen fatheads and got to the launch at Lower Greens Run about 6:00, by 6:15 we were running the shoreline looking for a likely spot for crappie and trying to give the motor a chance to clear itself up, after about 20 minutes running back and forth, ( no the motor didn't clear up ) we decided to fish, I had enough time to boat two small crappie about 8" and the sky light up to the west with lightning, shit...by the time we got the anchors up, and the motor started, it was coming down so hard you couldn't see the shore, and by the time we did get to the launch, there was quite a bit of water in the boat, ( no it doesn't leak a drop ) I could not have been any wetter......got back home, stowed the gear and went out for ice cream, a happy ending to an otherwise total waste of time.
Well at least it wasnt a total bust!! I actually really enjoy watching a storm roll in, just not when im in a boat! lol
Do you have easy access to the carb? If so give it a shot of carb and choke cleaner.. Might help!?
I love storms too, from my house...LOL, that is the second time I have been out in a questionable aluminum boat during close lightning strikes....it really sucks hard,....the only thing I was really worried about was my new IPhone in my back pocket, forgot the zip lock bag in the truck....
It is a '64 Evinrude, I just acquired it, and don't know much about it, other than it ran good for half a day, ( first outing of the year ) and ever since it will not peak out, seems to be running half power. It starts easily, just won't go. The previous owner admitted there was gas left in it, and it probably gummed up the needle valves. I am NOT a mechanic, back in NH, a good buddy who was a marine mechanic, lived 5 minutes away, and you could call him for a problem any time of day or night, as long as there was half a fridge full of Sam Adams. I will have to find someone local to look at it, and give er a tune up. I plan to use this boat to trap the river this fall, so it needs to be in tip top shape anyway.
The people at the fishing pier seemed to be having a lot of fun, not sure of sizes, but it seemed they were pulling fish in left and right, I am guessing we would have had a great night if we could have stayed another hour or two.
Next time....
