Driving from Owego to Waverly, the back way
My youngest had a doctors appointment in Owego this evening and the boys and I decided to take the long way home.
Well, we got on 94 North, stayed on 94 through Candor(?), then made a left on Halsey Valley Road. As soon as we made the right, we stopped at the stream there and did some fishing for about an hour.
Luke caught a little brookie, and it was small. We tossed it back. That was about it.
Then we continued down Halsey Valley Road and we saw a farm pond on the right. We knocked on the door and asked if we could fish it for about 30 minutes, the older woman said to go for it, she didn't know what was in there. Well, we caught a large mouth and a catfish. Luke got the catty.
So we thank her and then continue down the road. We entered a watershed area for Pipe Creek.and start looking for the creek. Two places the creek crawled close to the road were posted as private property. Looking into the legality of that, but didn't want to test it with my kids.
So, we found a place to park by the bridge on Diamond Valley Road, got down to the water and walked upstream until it widened out. The water was gin clear and cool. We fished for a while, but didn't get any bites. I think it was mostly our fault because we were hot and cooled off in the water before we fished. Probably spooked them.
A real nice local creek.
We also saw plenty of deer as well as a few turtles we helped cross the road.
It always pays to have the GPS and your fishing gear in your vehicle.
I want to go and try to fish where Pipe Creek drops into the Susqy. Looks like a nice place. Going to need a boat or a kayak though.
