Hey, did you ever look at the home page for Galeton?  It shows someone fishing right below the flood control dam in town.  Try and do that now!!! No way.......
Anyway, have any of you ever fished right down town by the Acorn Mart?  That used to be my "I have a couple  hours to kill" spot, but in the last two years, it hasn't fished to good.  It gets a bunch of bug activity...
How about above town on the West Branch?  I hope to get there year as well.  Lyman run too, if there is any water (Last year, it was very low...and the special reg water didn't fish well at all.)
I guess a 40 degree day gets me thinking about fishing up there!

Check this address out:   http://www.angelfire.com/pa/galeton/

That picture seems a little dated...the church in the background is now a theater  (well, the last time I was there it was).  Galeton is a beautiful little town, but there isn't a whole lot going on there most of the time.  Just the same, there is great fishing in the area if that would ever be a reason to live somewhere.....

If you truly wanted to disappear off the grid.... Galeton is that type of town.

Emporium was that kind of town....the first year I lived there, the cops picked up a guy working in a pizza shop that was wanted for murder in Texas.

In 1982, the chief of police attempted to pull over a van that ran a red light.  After a high speed pursuit, he and state trooper rounded up 2 German nationals that were wanted for bank robbery in Chicago.

About the time I moved out of there, they were rounding up drug couriers fairly regularly, along with the locals that got involved in dealing heroin.

Yep, it went unnoticed for some time, and I am willing to bet that through the little towns in the Northern Tier, you could hide from the law for some time!
(I could tell you some other stories, but it would make better post fishing conversation.....)

I always said that if I was ducking someone, the best place to hide is a national park....you can act and look as weird as you want, and no one seems to notice or care...........

If you kept your head down in Towanda.  You really could disappear.  I have a neighbor whom I've only seen a handful of times and I've lived in my house for over 10 years.  I keep telling Karin that one day we will know he's dead... cause of the smell.
Probably a Nazi War Criminal...  hiding out in little 'ol T-burg.

Well I just got to add to this, cause I spent the weekend up there, we have a camp that is oh I would say on a brisk walk with hip boots, vest, creel and fishing pole about 21 seconds from the West Branch. It took a while to find the fish in here on Sat but finally got a 11" rainbow, and missed another fish, seems every hole that looked real good had 2 or more shoulder to shoulder in it, and these were the holes that are accessible from the road, and from past expeirence the holes that got stocked, seems the trout stayed put this year from the March Stocking's. Anyways the one I got was 50 yards down from a stocked hole. Well got tired of bumping into people and took a ride up to Lyman Run Lake, cripes almighty, it looked like a circus, boats all over the lake, only saw one that was catching fish, shores lined with people, and even people on the far side, now that is quite a walk. Went back to camp got some lunch then went up the road a piece and got a real nice 15" brown on a good ole white worm, real deep fish too. Got a small brookie and had fun fishing.
I have fished every day since then and got a nice little stream here close to home and have been catching some native brookies everyday.

Tiogan,
The West Branch is where I learned to fish.  I have noticed some really marginal fishing there the last couple years, even though I see good insect activity.  The only event that I can think of that would have made any difference at all would have been when they drained Lyman Lake.  Speaking of which, that is where we go to eat lunch and watch the bank-sitters.  For a shallow featureless lake, it sure has a bunch of fans!

Anyway, if you are familiar with the "Happytown" area of the West Branch,  that is my old haunt......

JM,
Well yeppers I am really familiar with Happy Town, I have caught some nice fish by there, from the road all the way to the big hole around the corner downstream, our camp is on the next road towards Galeton that has a bridge on it, well now its three sluice pipes, but right off the West Branch Road 1st Camp on the Left.

Tiogan,
Sorry for the late reply....you are blessed with a great little stream to fish.  I was looking at pics from when I was a kid and we fished there......what an amazing piece of water.  I would love to see the dam in Galeton get breached so the browns could run back up it like they did before Hurrican Agnes, and return the West Branch to its "glory".  Just the same, I have a boatload of fond memories of learning to fish there..............

Check out my post in the fish porn contest, not the West Branch, but a creek here in Tioga County, I have caught this fish 5 times now along with a bunch of brookies, my youngest son said he got a brown out of this creek about a mile up from where I got this one.

Sounds like a decent outing for July!  Do you ever fish the West Branch or Pine in the fall?

I work... need to leave my area by 1:45 the latest.

We could work in a few hours.... unless you wanna go down to the holes right by the plant.  Show me where the bass are hiding there....  That would be cool!!!

When I was a kid we used to fish the West Branch above where Lyman Run dumps in.  That was before the flood control joke in downtown Galeton started choking off the brown trout from spawning grounds......haven't been up that far in a very long time.  However, the upshot could be some brookies may have shown back up!  I could talk myself into giving that a try before too long..........plus, if the fishing isn't too good, a stop at the Galeton Moose would be in order.......
