Montauk: The surfcasting capital of the world
I figured since it is what I know best I could contribute by giving you guys another possible destination to fish.......
Montauk ![]()
This place is absolutely breathtaking to begin with. The fishing isalso unbelievable! You can fish from the surf (my passion), or get outon a boat and hit the outer rips, or get on a fly boat.
The place has great fishing pretty much from mid to early may onthroughout the year! It really depends on your target. But the placereally comes alive with fish and plenty of fisherman after labor day.As soon as fall starts Montauk becomes a fishermans town. You will findthe lower lot filled with campers and trucks every night especiallyevery weekend. You will see blitzes you could only find in your dreamsand catch more fish between 10 and 20 lbs than you could know what todo with. The best part is if you want to get away from the crowds andfish for that cow bass 30's 40's 50's and 60's, you can do that toobecuase the place has so much to offer! I will post some pictures toget your blood running and if you guys are at all curious I will answeranything I can.....
Baitfish slam! Follow the birds! Sweet pics dude. Keep 'em coming! Glad to have a "shore connection" here!
I have always wanted to fish the surf. Its on my to-do list! I am going to try to hit that up this year. Your advice, tips and stories will help tremendously.
That picture looks awesome. Looks like a feeding frenzy... I must take my 9 weight fly rod and an assload of clouser minnows for like a 3 or 4 day weekend. Looks sweet
Oh yeah the shore fly guys do a number, they are feeding on little bay anchovies, sometimes the fly guys actually outfish everyone because they can present a better profile! Depending on when/where and how you want to hit the surf, I should definitely be able to help out!
Here is what we refer to as a cow bass!! This was caught the night of the 4th of october this year by a man named Willy Young who happens to be the head of the Montauk Surfcasters Association, which does a lot for fishermans rights and beach access! A very well deserved fish that went 52 lbs 12 oz......
That is Montauk for you........
Do you guys have Snowy Groupers there?
No not to my knowledge.....
That's it. I gotta try for big-assed striper now.
Ya right..... They are not easy to catch but the hunt is what makes it worth it.....
Love the striped bass!

Most people fish for easy fish like the Smallies!!!!!
Why don't you try your hand a wild browns on Spring Creek? Definately a challenge there, Jet.
Me thinks your afraid of getting skunked! JK ![]()
My buddy in Virginia has been trying to get me down there for years to do some ocean fishing. His brother caught the World Record snowy grouper last year at 68 pounds.I would rather chase walleyes on the susky in my jet boat!!!!I guess ya gotta try it once to get hooked on it....
