If you are bored and wish to learn about the PA Grand Canyon area. I implore you to visit your local library. I'm presently reading a great book called, A Historical and Folklure Tour of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, by Elfriede Elisabeth Ruppert. I picked this book up yesterday at the Bradford County Library. It is a fantasic read even though it was published in 1964 and is a touch outdated. It shows the Gorge area when it was mostly non-commercialized and still a "fisherman's paradise".
I was told by the the BradCo library personnel that any book on any subject that you would like to read about can be shipped from any library in PA to your local library. It make take a week or two to be shipped to your local area. However, it sounds like a good deal. Any library in PA can be accessed. It was stated that all University and local town libraries are inter-connected. For example, the George Harvey Memorial Flyfishing Section of the Penn State University will ship a fishing book to my little County library for me to check out. I accessed my local library computer database and found a lot of new titles that I wanted to read. Instead of waiting until I have an extra $40 to pick it up at Borders or Barnes and Nobles, I can read it for free. I just figured that you all may not know that you can do an inter-library loan (as it's called). NYS does the same program but not all libraries have a computer database to choose books (per the Waverly Free Library. I called them this morning to get the info for all you NY Stater's) So, if there is a title of book you would like to read just write it down and the library will try and do the legwork for you to get it in.
Not only can you get books, but DVD's and VCR tapes as well. The BradCo library has many books/DVD's on fishing topics to include icefishing, specific species of fish and how to catch them, and biographies on famous fisher-people such as Charles Orvis, Leigh Perkins, Lee Wulff, Lefty Kreh... but no DonnyBeav yet. LOL!
So not to sound like a Public Television ad... check out your local library and read a good book!
